Reading: 1 Corinthian 13:13

Speaker: Walter Maxwell

First Corinthian 13:13 tells us that love is the greatest gift of all.

Our love should extend to the following:

  1. Love Our Enemies.
Christ told us to love our enemies in Luke 6:35. He also demonstrated that we should not shun anyone.  Christ did not remove himself from people whom others considered unworthy.  He let the prostitute wash he feet in Luke 7:38 and did not scold her. Our love must go beyond our own comfort zone and enable us to speak to all people, including those down trotted and neglected.
  2. Love those that are Lost.
Jesus wept over lost Jerusalem.  Our love should make us feel compassion for those who have not yet tuned their lives over to Christ.
  3. Love those that are “unlovely” (those difficult to love).
It is not easy to love those who reject our love but we should love people in spite of themselves. See several examples from the book of Hosea.
  4. Love one another.
Christians should love one another.  Christ command that we should love one another as he has loved us in John 13:34.  God loved us while we were still sinners, Roman 5:8 so we should be able to extent love to one another.
